István Pál (“Szalonna”) is the leading “primás”
of the Hungarian Sate Folk Ensemble and a sensational violin virtuoso. He is originally from Kárpátalja,
currently within the political border of Ukraine, from a small Hungarian village, Visken and started his musical education
there in Tiszapéterfalva. Even at a young age, he is becoming a legend in Hungarian folk music. István Pál (“Szalonna”) was born in 1980 in Kárpátalja in
a small Hungarian village Visken, and he started his musical education from his parents and later in the music school Tiszapéterfalva.
This area of historic Hungary is within the political border of Ukraine, since WW II. Today, at a young age, he is one of
the most respected “primás” [lead violinist] in Hungary leading the Hungarian State Folk Ensemble’s orchestra
[Magyar Állami Népi Együttes] – which is the showcase of Hungarian folk music and dance touring around the world. He also
leads his own band, which performs authentic Hungarian village music. István
has also conducted extensive ethno musicological research
in Hungarian villages of Kárpátalja [Ukraine], Hungary, Transylvania [Erdély, Romania] and in the Felvidék [Slovakia],
and learned form the last surviving folk music informants from these villages. He has won a special price in 1993 “Ki
mit tud”, a national television talent competition and a recipient of the “Young Master of Folk Music” award.
The Pál Family is truly amazingly talented musically. Eszter, is piano and folk-singer educator,
currently she is attending the Franz Liszt Academy of Music, “folk-singer” curriculum. Lajos, the father, has
been a Conductor at the Kiev Opera House, but he also playes village music as an accordion player – a very unique mix
of musical experience. The mother, Katalin Jancsó, is a piano teacher and music educator. The Pál Family Orchestra Concerts are rare and intimate
musical experiences venturing into traditional authentic village music, popular Hungarian music in the
“Gypsy” tradition, with a wonderful touch of choral works and samplings of appropriate classical music.

Pál
István (ismert beceneve Szalonna) a kárpátaljai Visken született 1980-ban. Zenei nevelését
eleinte szüleitől kapta, majd a tiszapéterfalvai zeneiskolában folytatta. Ma a Magyar Állami
Népi Együttes népszerű primása. Saját, eredeti népzenét bemutató
zenekara is van. Több népzenekutatást végzett Kárpátalján, Erdélyben
és a Felvidéken, tanulmányozva és elsajátitva talán az utolsó adatközlő
zenészek muzsikáját. 1993-ban elnyerte a Ki Mit Tud televiziós tehetségkutató verseny
különdiját, valamint az országos Népzene Ifjú Mestere kitüntetést is.
Az egész Pál család zenei tehetsége csodálatraméltó.
Eszter, István húga zongorázik és népdalokat énekel, jelenleg ezt a szakot végzi
a Liszt Ferenc Zeneakadémián. Lajos, az édesapa a kievi Operaház karnagyaként működött,
ugyanakkor tangóharmónikán a népi muzsika mestere is. Jacsó Katalin, az édesanya
zongora és zenetanár.

élményt és kalandozást nyújtanak nemcsak a hagyományos eredeti falusi muzsikálás,
de a népszerű és a klasszikus magyar zene világába is.

members of this Hungarian folk music band are considered masters of their

The TÜKRÖS
Folk Music Ensemble was founded in 1986 and today is one of
Hungary's most respected revival folk bands, which specializes
in collecting
authentic folk music from remote villages of Hungary and Transylvania, and
from archival recordings,
preserving and presenting this music in its most
authentic form yet in a style most entertaining and suitable for all
audiences. Their performance is a voyage back to historical times, when
traditional folk music was an integral and
crucial part of the village
community's daily life. TÜKRÖS' CDs have been very popular, especially their
folk music collection from Szatmár county [North Eastern Hungary], which
became a landmark release. They are
a regular band at the FONÓ, a popular
folk music café in Budapest. In addition to performing, the band
members are
dedicated to teaching folk music in schools and organizing an annual folk
music camp in Hungary.
TÜKRÖS members are professional musicians with decades of performing
experience. The band has toured throughout
Europe, twice in Australia and
once in North America. Members include: Attila Halmos, violin, who became
attracted
to folk music at an early age through the activities of his father
who was an ethnomusicologist; Gergely Koncz, violin,
one of Hungary's
youngest and most talented folk violinists; Péter Árendás, brácsa [viola],
a
key figure in the collection of folk music for FONÓ Records and the musical
director of the BUDAPEST Folk
Ensemble; Endre Liber, brácsa and cimbalom, a
prominent musician in the Budapest folk music scene with many years
of
experience; András Lelkes, bőgő [double bass], a talented musician with
experience in jazz as
well as folk music.

A magyar népzenét játszó zenekarok élvonalába tartozó

1986-ban alakult Budapesten. Fő célkitűzésük a hangszeres magyar
népzene
minél hitelesebb tolmácsolása, stílusos előadása, szórakoztató
formában. A
magyar nyelvterület számos vidékének zenéjével fgglalkoznak,
de e sokszínű
népzenén belül főképpen szatmári (Északkelet-Magyarország)
és különböző
mezőségi (Erdély) zenéket játszanak a hagyományos
vonószenekari felállásban
(hegedű-brácsa-bőgő), cimbalommal kiegészítve.
A zenekar számos alkalommal
szerepelt különböző rádió-és TV-csatornákon.
Több hazai gyűjteményes
népzenei lemezen szerepeltek, az első önálló
albumukat a Fonó Records adta
ki 1996-ban (Tükrös együttes: Magyar népzene). Az ezredfordulóra
a zenekar
megjelentette második lemezét "Szatmári népzene az 1900-as évekből"
címmel,
amellyel elnyerte a Magyar Művészeti Akadémia Arany Oklevelét. Egy évvel
később, 2001-ben kiérdemelték a "Népművészet Ifjú Mestere"
címet. A
Zenekarnak immár 5 éve állandó klubja működik a Fonó Budai
Zeneházban. A
zenekar által játszott stílust elsősorban a rendszeres gyűjtőutakon
megismert idős falusi zenészektől, és a róluk készült korábbi felvételek
alapján tanulták, ezek az utak erős érzelmi és szakmai töltést jelentenek
mind a mai napig.

Come join us for a workshop before
the Tanchaz on Dec. 13th, from 5:30 to 7 PM. We'll be working on the basics of the Mezosegi couple dance, and it's a great opportunity to
practice with partners! If you already know and love Mezosegi, here's your chance to have extra fun yourself, while helping new dancers benefit from your experience. The fee for this

This is an invitation to the Hungarian Scouts
Ball, which is one of the highlights of the Season, being held every second year. It is for the benefit of the Hungarian Scout
Association, which is essentially the only world-wide organization which is dedicated to work for the preservation of Hungarian
culture and identity within the young community members in the West. This Ball is one of the major fundraising events, in
addition of being a wonderful social gathering.

2008. július 26-án
a Solti Polgári Kör az Újsolt melletti Tarnay-birtokon látta vendégül Bíró
Ildikót, a Fidesz civil igazgatóját, az Október 23. Bizottság Alapítvány
és a Civil Jogász Bizottság képviselőit: Szöőr Annát, Gajdos Erzsébetet,
Völgyesi Miklóst és Horváth Attilát. Az összejövetel célja
az volt, hogy a civil kapcsolatokért felelős országgyűlési képviselő asszony, valamint
a magyar termőföld megmentésén is fáradozó alapítvány tagjai megismerkedjenek
a vidéki embereket gondolkodásával, problémáival. Balogh József
helyi választókerületi elnök, országgyűlési képviselő köszöntőjében
ismertette a tanyavilág megmentéséről szóló országos programját. Ezt
követően Völgyesi Miklós, a Civil Jogász Bizottság elnöke a tanyák biztonságáról
tartott előadást, majd Szöőr Anna és Horváth Attila a 2006. óta tartó közhangulatot
elemezték. A rendezvény során a budapesti vendégek megismerkedtek a Solti Polgári
Kör több mint száz megjelent tagjával, és kérésükre jogi, valamint egyéb
életvezetési, közéleti tanácsokat is adtak nekik. Az esemény végén
az egybegyűltek megállapodtak abban, hogy a közeljövőben sor kerül mind Solton, mind a környező
falvakban az Október 23. Bizottság Alapítvány és a helyi polgári kör által
